What signature techniques does Paul Rogers use to optimize lighting in small spaces?

In tight spaces, I’m always chasing big, soft, directional light from very little gear. A few of my go-to moves:

• Put one small light as far to the side as I can for shape (3/4 or side key), not flat front-on
• Bounce it into a wall/ceiling/foam board to make the source much larger and softer
• Push the subject away from the background so it falls into shadow (instant cinematic depth)
• Use practicals (lamps, windows, screens) as motivators so the light feels “real,” not random
• Flag or block spill with anything dark (v-flats, curtains, cardboard) to keep contrast and mood
