Answer
Hi, I’m Paul Rogers from thatcreativeceo. Love this question.
My go‑to minimal lighting techniques:
- One light, many moods: I’ll use a single small LED and change only distance, angle, and height to get totally different looks (Rembrandt, split light, backlight).
- Shape > brightness: I’d rather dim the light and move it closer, then use walls, doors, or objects to create shadows and frames.
- Bounce and negative fill: White walls or cheap foam board to bounce, black clothing or flags to add contrast on the shadow side.
- Background first: I expose for the background, then add just enough light on the subject so it feels motivated by something in the scene (a “movie lamp,” window, or lamp).
What kind of content are you shooting right now—talking-head, product, or more cinematic scenes?
