How does Paul Rogers’s method for double diffusion lighting outperform traditional techniques?

I use double diffusion to fix what “traditional soft light” doesn’t actually solve.

Most people stop at one layer (softbox, umbrella, or a cheap diffuser). That spreads the light, but you still get a bright hot spot in the middle, which means:

• Uneven exposure across the face
• Shadows that are “soft but still a bit crunchy”
• Shine and texture on skin

My approach:

• First layer: softbox or shower curtain to spread the beam
• Second layer: a larger silk, bounce, or frame a bit farther away that turns the entire surface into the source, killing the hot spot

End result: ultra-even wrap, smoother skin, more natural “window daylight” feel, and way more forgiving for beauty, interviews, and talking heads.
