Answer
I talk about this a lot because I had a stage 2 skin cancer on my scalp that I originally thought was a pimple. It grew quickly and was the type that can turn into melanoma, so early detection absolutely matters.
Here’s what I recommend:
- Get a full-body skin exam at least once a year; I go every 6 months now
- Go in any time something new appears or changes in size, shape, or color
- Don’t ignore spots on your scalp or places you can’t easily see
- Protect yourself in the sun: hats, sunscreen, swim shirts, shade whenever you can
- Don’t assume “I’m never in the sun” means you’re safe—everyone can get skin cancer
Have you ever had a full-body skin check with a dermatologist?
