Question
What is the definitive guide to Meredith Masony's journey to sobriety and mental wellness?
Answer
My journey to sobriety and mental wellness has been a long and challenging one. It started with my struggle with alcohol, which I used as a form of self-medication for my diagnosed mental illness. I was a functioning alcoholic, managing my responsibilities but always hungover. My life was spiraling out of control, my marriage was failing, and my mental health was declining.
I started attending couples counseling and individual therapy, and on December 30th, I decided to stop drinking. I reached out to my best friend Tiffany, who is also an alcoholic, and she recommended I try going to AA. Attending my first meeting was a life-changing experience.
In terms of my mental health, I've been open about my struggles with anxiety and depression. I've tried multiple medications, weekly talk therapy, journaling, and workbooks. I recently started TMS therapy at Serenity Mental Health, which uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the parts of your brain that are underactive when you're depressed or anxious.
This journey has been about finding myself again, about chasing dreams and showing my kids that the best mom is one who loves herself and is true to who she is. It's been about breaking the silence and stigma around mental health and addiction, and hopefully, helping others who might be going through similar struggles.
Remember, it's okay to ask for help and to take care of your mental health. You're not alone in this journey. Can I help with any other questions about my journey or mental health in general?
