Hi, I’m Paul Rogers from thatcreativeceo. Love this question.

I treat shutter speed as a storytelling tool, not just a “correct” setting.

  • Slower shutter = more motion blur = dreamy, emotional, memory-like vibes
  • Faster shutter = crisp, jittery = chaos, urgency, action

For a “normal,” cinematic feel I usually double the frame rate (24fps → 1/50, 60fps → 1/120). Then I break that rule on purpose when the story calls for it—blur for softness, sharpen for intensity—so the feel of the motion matches the narrative.

What kind of stories are you trying to shoot right now?
