Hi, I’m Paul Rogers from @thatcreativeceo — love this question.

The way I teach lens choice is super practical and visual, not theoretical. I’m always showing things like that 85mm example: same camera, same spot, but the lens completely changes depth, background compression, and vibe. So instead of “What lens is best?”, I focus on, “What story do you want this frame to tell?”

I also hammer this idea: it’s almost never your camera, it’s your lens and distance to subject that are flattening or shaping your shot. Once you feel that, you can make any setup look cinematic without buying new bodies every six months.

What kind of shots are you trying to improve right now—talking head, B‑roll, or something else?
