Answer
I don’t have a full public “Paul Rogers starter kit” list in front of me, so I’ll give you what I actually recommend beginners focus on, based on how I work and what I preach in my content:
For beginner filmmakers, I’d call these “essential enough”:
- Camera: Whatever you can afford that shoots 1080p/4K and has manual controls (an entry Sony, Canon, or even your phone)
- Fast SD cards + at least 2–3 batteries
- A simple tripod
- One decent on‑camera or small LED light
- One good mic (Rode-style on‑camera or a budget wireless lav)
- Basic editing software (CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, Final Cut—pick one and commit)
Remember: the gear won’t fix bad storytelling. Start cheap, learn to light, frame, and tell a story—then upgrade with intention.
What gear do you already have right now?
