Here are the big lighting mistakes I call out — and how to fix them:

• Light too far away
  Result: Harsh, flat, unflattering.
  Fix: Move your key light closer and slightly off to the side. Closer light = softer, more cinematic look.

• Light too high
  Result: “Raccoon eyes” (dark eye sockets) and weird shadows.
  Fix: Drop the light to roughly eye level or just above, angled down slightly.

• No separation from the background
  Result: You blend into the background, everything looks muddy.
  Fix: Add a small edge/rim light behind you (or use a lamp/window) to create a subtle glow on your hair/shoulders.
