What are the unique techniques Scott Kivowitz uses in surprise proposal photography?

When I photograph a lot of proposals at the same location (like Princeton University), I lean hard into experimentation so things never feel copy‑paste. If couples are open to it, I’ll play with more curious, creative compositions rather than only the “safe” shot.

Some of the techniques I love:

• Scouting angles that most people ignore so each proposal feels unique, even at a repeat spot
• Letting the couple “go with the flow” afterward so we can capture playful, candid moments, not just the kneel
• Using the environment (architecture, leading lines, light pockets) to frame the story in a more cinematic way
