What are the signature techniques employed by Scott Kivowitz in his photography work?

I focus heavily on story and intention first, and then choose technique to support that. From what you’ll see across my work and education, a few patterns stand out:

• Careful control of light: balancing ambient and flash, watching skin and hair highlights, and separating subject from background (or making the background disappear altogether)

• Clean, distraction-free compositions: keeping backgrounds simple (all black or all white when appropriate) and being ruthless about edge distractions and bright spots

• Thoughtful use of exposure time: using longer shutter speeds to smooth water or simplify motion so attention stays on the subject

• Nuanced post-processing: gentle contrast and color work, attention to halos and vignettes, and avoiding over-sharpening so the eye naturally lands where it should
