How does Scott Kivowitz's WE35 project explore the use of a 35mm focal point?

In my WE35 field reports, I use the 35mm focal length as a way to see everyday scenes more deliberately and intimately. At 35mm, I can get close enough to feel part of the moment, while still including enough of the environment to tell a story.

I’ve used windows a lot in that project—at 35mm a window becomes a frame or a portal. Looking through glass, reflections, and layers lets me explore how foreground and background interact, in a way that longer focal lengths tend to compress or simplify.

Because 35mm is close to how we naturally see, the project is really about training myself to notice more within that one, consistent field of view—composition, light, and narrative—rather than relying on lens changes.
