Answer
When I switch to shutter priority mode for action, I’m deliberately choosing the one setting that matters most for movement: shutter speed. I lock that in (for example, 1/500–1/1000s for wrestling, sports, or kids running), and let the camera handle aperture and ISO.
That trade-off gives me:
- Consistently sharp subjects with less motion blur
- More mental bandwidth to watch timing, expressions, and composition instead of juggling three exposure settings
- Faster reaction time when the action changes suddenly
In short, I let the camera “think with me” on exposure, so I can focus on the moment.
What kind of action are you photographing right now—sports, kids, wildlife, something else?
