Answer
I focus on a mix of planning and staying nimble so the moment feels genuine but is still well covered.
Some of my go‑to techniques for proposal photography are:
- Help plan the proposal with the person proposing: timing, exact spot, approach route, and backup plans
- Use Google Maps/Earth, then scout in person when possible
- Mark the map with “10” for “10 minutes away” and “P” for “parked” so timing is clear
- Have clothing and gear prepped: small kit, spider holster, jacket with pockets, tripod only if I know I can stay put
- Be ready to move fast, hide when needed, and then shift quickly into a relaxed mini‑session afterward
What part of proposal photography are you most interested in—planning, camera settings, or posing after the “yes”?
