• Exporting at the actual display size needed on your site (not 6000px when you only show 1600px)
• Using JPEG for most photos, with sensible quality (usually around 70–80% in Lightroom/Photoshop)
• Running images through an optimizer like JPEGmini to shrink file size without visible loss

Hosting matters too. A solid, photography‑friendly web host and/or CDN will serve images faster and more reliably, which is just as important as compression settings.
