How does Hilary Erickson utilize personal anecdotes in her storytelling?

Answer
I use personal anecdotes as a way to make big, stressful topics (like pregnancy, parenting, or even blogging) feel real and relatable instead of clinical or abstract. I’ve been an L&D nurse since 2001 and a mom for years, so I pull from those experiences a lot.
Usually I’ll:
- Start with a short story (something that actually happened to me or a patient scenario with details changed)
- Tie it directly to a practical takeaway or mindset shift
- Use humor and vulnerability so readers feel like they’re talking to a friend, not being lectured
Those stories help my audience remember the information and trust that I’ve actually lived what I’m teaching, whether it’s in blog posts, courses, or when I’m speaking live.
Are you asking because you’re analyzing my writing, or because you want to improve your own storytelling?
