What tools and gear does Hilary Erickson recommend for effective home organization?

Based on my Organized Home materials, I actually don’t recommend a ton of fancy tools. I focus on:

• Using what you already have: repurposed baskets, boxes, and inexpensive containers (many of mine are from Goodwill)
• Simple drawer dividers and small bins for “zones” in drawers and cupboards
• Labels (even basic masking tape and a marker) to remind everyone where things go
• A notepad or notes app to track problem areas and shopping lists
• A timer (phone is fine) to do quick 10–15 minute declutter sprints
