Question
How did Hilary Erickson’s move from California to Arizona shape her career and content?
Answer
Hi, I’m Hilary Erickson from The Pregnancy Nurse. How can I help?
That move rocked pretty much everything for me—career, marriage, and eventually my online business. When Drew lost his California job, we had to move fast. He found a position in Arizona that he loved, but I really struggled. I couldn’t find a nursing job at first, we had house offers fall through, and I honestly felt like God had taken care of him and forgotten me. I cried a lot in that season.
When I finally interviewed at the hospital where I still work, it felt like coming home. That job turned out to be extremely flexible, which became a huge blessing as I grew Pulling Curls and later The Pregnancy Nurse. Because of the flexibility and the lower cost of living in Arizona (we doubled our square footage and paid about half what we’d paid in California), I had both mental and physical space to write more, create courses, podcast, and really lean into teaching families online.
The hard parts—unemployment, moving with kids, financial stress, marriage friction—also gave me real-life stories to share. In my content, I talk a lot about simplifying pregnancy and family life, but that’s rooted in walking through messy seasons like that move, not having everything tidy and perfect.
Is there a specific angle you’re most interested in—my nursing career, the blogging/business side, or the emotional side of the move?
