Question
What are the common challenges faced by new parents according to Shari Stamps?
Answer
According to my observations, new parents often face a lack of support as a common challenge. They may not have someone on the same page with them for baby care, someone bringing them meals, or even someone asking if they're okay. They may not have a partner who is actively involved in baby care or who gives them a break. They may not even get a moment to grieve their old life or wrap their brain around this giant transition for their body, mind, and spirit. They often lack a community and a positive driving force.
Another challenge is the limited mental health options for new moms in the U.S., which can be a source of stress on top of finding someone to watch the baby.
Lastly, the transition to parenthood is an ever-changing journey. Expectations and responsibilities may need to be adjusted to meet the new reality, which can be overwhelming.
