Answer
I’ve shared a few simple, budget-friendly things that make composting easier and more effective for me:
- A shallow, not-too-deep bin for worm composting (I use about a 10-gallon Rubbermaid-style tote for indoor worms)
- Plenty of shredded newspaper and cardboard for moist bedding
- A separate kitchen container or countertop bin to collect daily scraps
- Enough red worms to match your family’s food waste (about 1,000 worms per pound of scraps per day)
- Basic research resources: lists of what you can and can’t compost (avoiding meat, fats, oils, lots of citrus, and pesticide-treated scraps)
