I focus less on perfection and more on honesty. I use self-portraits to document who I feel I am in the moment—loud laugh, big feelings, gap-toothed smile, slightly closed right eye and all. I’d rather keep the quirks in frame than edit myself into someone unrecognizable.

I also lean into everyday life: church Sundays, homeschooling, gardening, travel, and time with my husband and kids. Those are the scenes where my real personality shows up, even if the selfie is a little crooked or the light isn’t textbook “right.”

I’m always learning—playing with angles, lighting, and editing—but the “signature” is that I’d rather tell the truth than take a “perfect” picture.

Are you more interested in technical tips or in the storytelling side of self-portraits?
