The We Sow We Grow initiative, started by me, Natasha Nicholes, is a unique approach to urban homesteading. It began in 2016 when my husband and I noticed a large vacant lot across the street from our home on the South Side of Chicago. With the approval of our Alderman, we transformed it into a community garden.
The project aims to unite the community through the food we grow. It's not just about growing plants; it's about growing gardeners. We provide a platform for people to learn about agriculture, share their experiences, and support each other. We also host an annual summit where we share knowledge and experiences.
We're currently working on acquiring a vacated firehouse in the community, which will further expand our capabilities. The goal is to protect these urban spaces from developers and ensure they benefit the local community.
