Vermicomposting has outperformed my traditional outdoor bin in a few clear ways:

• Speed: My indoor worm bin breaks down scraps faster than the outdoor compost bin. Those worms are busy.
• Control: Using a 10-gallon tote indoors lets me manage moisture, temperature, and what goes in much more easily.
• Space and smell: It fits in the house, uses our everyday scraps (veggie peels, eggshells, cardboard), and stays low-odor when managed well.
• Kid involvement: The kids help monitor what goes in, so we get better results and fewer mistakes.
