Answer
Hi, I’m from .
From my experience, vermicomposting “outperforms” my traditional outdoor bin in a few key ways:
- Speed: My indoor worm bin breaks down scraps faster than my outdoor compost, especially in cooler weather, because the worms are constantly eating and conditions stay more stable inside.
- Space and control: I use a simple 10-gallon tote indoors, so I can manage moisture, smell, and pests much more easily than a big outdoor pile.
- Quality of compost: Worm castings are very rich and fine-textured, great for gardens and houseplants, and I can eventually collect compost tea as well.
- Family engagement: Having worms inside gets the kids involved daily—they help check what goes in, so we avoid meat, oils, and too much citrus and keep the system healthy.
