I weave my family into travel by making them the center of every story, not just the background. When I write about road trips or city adventures, I focus on what my kids are seeing, learning, and feeling, and how we’re all growing together through the experience.

I also highlight everyday, accessible adventures—urban farming, local Chicago outings, national parks—so readers see family travel as a lifestyle, not a rare event. A big part of my narrative is exposing my children to diversity and culture, echoing what my mother and grandmother did for me, and challenging stereotypes about Black families by simply showing us out in the world, exploring and learning together.

Is there a specific trip or type of family travel you’re most curious about?
