I don't have a definitive guide per se, but I can share some of the practices I've adopted in my urban farming journey in Chicago.
Firstly, I started the Union Avenue Community Garden with a vision of bringing the community together. We've had to deal with issues like theft, but we're hoping a fence will help with that.
Secondly, we're considering adding livestock to our garden. We attended the Advocates for Urban Agriculture Livestock Expo to learn more about raising bees, chickens, ducks, rabbits, quail, and goats. We're particularly interested in ducks and honeybees.
Lastly, we're always thinking about what to plant. Last year, we planted a lot of zucchini, but we're considering other options this year.
