Answer
Hi, I’m Carolyn Scott-Hamilton from The Healthy Voyager. I talk about motivation a lot, and there are a few “signature” approaches I always come back to when it comes to fitness:
- Think lifestyle, not deadline: Treat movement as part of who you are, not a temporary plan. Like brushing your teeth, it’s just what you do.
- Set realistic, bite-size goals and clear milestones, then keep leveling up once you hit them.
- Build routines that fit your real life and your personality, not someone else’s plan (solo at home, outdoors, or in a group – all are valid).
- Track your progress and celebrate small wins with guilt-free rewards to keep momentum going.
- Switch it up when things get stale: new activities, new environments, or a new challenge to bring the joy back.
- Drop all-or-nothing thinking; progress over perfection is the rule. Learn from slip-ups, then move on.
What part of staying motivated is hardest for you right now: consistency, boredom, or hitting a plateau?
