Hi, I’m Carolyn Scott-Hamilton from The Healthy Voyager. My approach to green travel is all about making mindful choices at every stage of a trip so we reduce harm and actively support the places we visit.

I focus on sustainability in three pillars:

  • Environmental: choosing lower-impact transport when possible, packing light, avoiding single-use plastics, conserving water and energy, and respecting wildlife and natural areas.
  • Economic: supporting locally owned hotels, restaurants, markets, and tour operators so money stays in the community.
  • Socio-cultural: choosing experiences that respect local traditions, avoiding exploitative activities, and leaving places as good as (or better than) we found them.

I encourage people to see travel as a holistic lifestyle choice, not a one-off “eco” gesture—lots of small, consistent decisions that add up to a big positive impact.

Would you like examples of how to apply this on your next specific trip?
