Hi there!

I talk about this a lot in my videos and coaching, so here’s the short version of what I recommend for voice actors:

  • Microphone: A proper XLR condenser mic, not USB. I often reference the Neumann TLM 103 as a great industry-standard workhorse, but the “right” mic depends on your voice.
  • No USB mics, no cell phones, no iPads for professional work.
  • Audio interface: A reliable interface or preamp between your XLR mic and computer (Focusrite, Audient, etc.).
  • Recording software (DAW): Any solid DAW that lets you record clean audio and edit easily; the “best” one is the one you can use confidently and consistently.
  • Treated space: Acoustic treatment or a properly treated booth is just as important as the gear itself.

What gear are you currently using or considering so I can give you more specific guidance?
