I focus less on chasing fancy gear and more on getting the right basics and learning to use them well.

For most aspiring voice actors, I generally recommend starting with:

  • A solid large-diaphragm XLR microphone (not a cheap USB mic)
  • A reliable audio interface
  • Closed-back studio headphones
  • A quiet, treated recording space (blankets, panels, closets beat “pretty” but echoey rooms)
  • Simple, stable recording software (like Audacity, Reaper, or TwistedWave)

What gear do you already have, if any?
