Question
What is Gabrielle Nistico's definitive guide to surviving the holiday season as a voice actor?
Answer
Hi there! I’m Gabrielle Nistico.
Here’s my no-fluff “holiday survival guide” for voice actors, based on what I teach in my holiday video and coaching:
-
Expect the slump
December is notoriously slow. Holiday ads are already produced, clients are on vacation, and ad agencies are running skeleton crews. You’re not cursed, the industry is just quiet. -
Don’t panic about being off-mic
A slow inbox doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means it’s time to shift focus from recording to running your business. -
Use the last two weeks of December for infrastructure
Work on all the stuff you “never have time for”:
- Update website, branding, profiles, and demos
- Clean up your CRM, contacts, and follow-up lists
- Plan marketing for Q1 (email campaigns, outreach targets, content calendar)
- Tackle accounting, taxes, and rate reviews
- Organize your audio, templates, and file systems
-
Stay business-minded between celebrations
Enjoy your holidays, but block specific hours for business tasks so January-–March are stronger because of the groundwork you laid now. -
Build skills and community
Slow season is great for:
- Coaching and workouts
- Studying genres you want to break into
- Networking and virtual meetups (like my Virtual Voiceover Exchange sessions)
- Plan financially for next year
Assume next December will also be slow. Build a cushion throughout the year so the holiday dip is an inconvenience, not an emergency.
If you treated each December as your “annual reset and rebuild month,” what’s the first thing in your business you’d tackle this year?
