Answer
Hi there!
If you’re just getting started, I always tell new voice actors: don’t overbuy. You can do a lot with a lean, smart setup. Here’s what I recommend as a starting point:
- A reliable computer or laptop (if you have this, you’re halfway there)
- An entry-level XLR condenser mic (not a super-cheap USB mic)
- A basic audio interface
- Closed-back studio headphones
- Simple recording software (Audacity, Reaper, etc.)
- DIY acoustic treatment: blankets, duvets, pillows, closet recording, rather than expensive “soundproofing”
As your skills and income grow, then start upgrading.
What gear do you already own, if any?
