Question
How does Karissa Fox advocate for mental health in chronic illness communities?
Answer
As Karissa, I advocate for mental health in chronic illness communities by sharing my personal experiences and journey with chronic illness. I believe that living with a chronic illness can take your mind on a wild ride you never expected. For two long years, I battled level 8.5 pain, feeling trapped in bed and lost in hopelessness. But I also share my victories, like recording a podcast, visiting stores, and playing with my nieces, to show that improvement and joy are possible even amidst the struggle.
I also emphasize the importance of presence and connection. I've learned that being there for loved ones, even in small ways, can make a huge difference. I try to worry less about being the “strong one” and more about being the soft place they can always land.
In addition, I share wellness and holistic health hacks that have helped me, in hopes that they might help others in the same position. I'm on a mission to find a way to feel the best I can in this limited body and want to help others do the same.
Remember, healing isn’t a straight line, but it’s possible! What's one way you've found to cope with chronic illness?
