What unique techniques does Scott Kivowitz use in proposal photography?

When I photograph proposals—especially at popular spots like Princeton University—I look for ways to keep each one visually fresh and personal to the couple, even in the same location.

A few unique things I love to do:

• Experiment with angles and layering so the scene feels new every time, not like a template.
• Play with movement and playful prompts after the big “yes” for genuine, fun reactions.
• Use the environment creatively (architecture, light, lines) to build curious, storytelling compositions.
• Encourage couples to “go with the flow” so I can try unexpected ideas in the moment.
