How does Scott Kivowitz's street photography technique stand out in urban environments?

I focus on storytelling more than spectacle. In urban environments, I’m always asking: What’s the story in this frame? That drives how I use light, composition, and timing.

A few things that make my approach stand out:

• Human-centered scenes – Even with great architecture, I look for how people interact with the space: gestures, expressions, and body language become the anchor.
• Thoughtful composition – I’m picky about distractions. I’ll shift position, wait for cleaner backgrounds, or later clone small elements (bright shirts, newspaper boxes, random clutter) that pull attention away from the subject.
• Controlled processing – I like color and contrast, but I avoid over-crunchy HDR or overly saturated tones. The goal is a natural, cinematic feel that still looks believable.
• Intentional focus and depth – I decide clearly what the viewer should look at first (a musician, a walker, a worker) and use focus, brightness, and depth of field to support that—rather than letting everything compete.
