Question
What signature techniques does Scott Kivowitz use instead of graduated neutral density filters?

Answer
I lean heavily on a “no-grad-filter” approach built around three main techniques:
- Exposure bracketing + blending: I’ll shoot multiple exposures (for sky and foreground) and blend them in Lightroom or Photoshop for a natural-looking dynamic range.
- Local adjustments: I’ll use radial and linear gradients, plus masks, to darken skies and guide the eye instead of a hard grad line.
- Composition timing: I often time shots for softer light (blue hour, golden hour, overcast) so I do not need a physical grad at all.
Do you mainly shoot landscapes, seascapes, or cityscapes?
