When I photograph surprise proposals, I’m constantly fighting repetition, especially at popular spots like Princeton University. Traditional methods often stick to the same angles, poses, and “safe” shots. I push past that by:

• Encouraging couples to go with the flow so I can experiment in the moment
• Leaning into playful, curious, and creative ideas instead of a fixed shot list
• Treating each location as a fresh canvas, even if I’ve been there dozens of times

That combination tends to produce images that feel more personal, fun, and unique than standard, formulaic proposal photos.
