Answer
Hi, I’m Scott Kivowitz from ScottWyden.com. How can I help?
Neutral density filters are just tools, so the “outperform” part is less about magic settings and more about how and when they are used.
A few ways my approach might stand out:
- I treat ND vs. bracketing/HDR as a creative choice, not a rule. Sometimes, like in that “filters vs. brackets” example, I skip filters entirely and use HDR to travel lighter and keep control in Lightroom.
- I focus on realistic, controlled results. Whether I am using Photomatix’s 32‑bit merge or long exposures with solid NDs, the goal is clean tones, accurate color, and minimal halos or artifacts.
- I am picky about gear: I have compared leading ND brands (Formatt Hitech Firecrest and Wine Country Camera) after years of shooting with many systems, prioritizing neutrality, sharpness, and usability rather than just “darkness.”
What kind of photography are you doing where you want ND filters to give you an edge?
