How does Scott Kivowitz’s methodology stand out during photowalk sessions?

I focus on three things during photowalks: teaching in real time, building community, and encouraging experimentation.

I like to walk alongside people, not in front of them “lecturing.” I talk through my thought process out loud—why I choose a lens, where I stand, how I decide on exposure—and invite others to do the same. It becomes a moving, live critique and Q&A.

I also emphasize connection: introducing attendees to one another, encouraging collaboration, and making space for questions at every level. Finally, I push people to try something new—different angles, intentional constraints, or a mini “assignment” during the walk—so they leave with both better photos and better habits.
