How does Scott Kivowitz’s method outperform others in using camera lens filters for photography?

When I use filters, I’m focused on intention and subtlety rather than gimmicks. A lot of photographers slap on filters and “fix it in post.” I’d rather start with the cleanest, most purposeful file possible, so filters are tools to solve specific problems: dynamic range, reflections, shutter speed, or color balance.

I also put a lot of emphasis on:

• Choosing the right filter (ND, GND, polarizer) for the story of the scene
• Avoiding heavy vignettes or dirty-looking skies/snow, which you can see me critique often
• Keeping colors believable and detail where it matters (like tree bark or eyes), not just adding “punch”

That combination of restraint, technical awareness, and storytelling focus is really where my approach stands out.
