Answer
I look at G.A.S. through a “tools last, purpose first” lens.
When I’m tempted by new gear, I ask:
- What problem in my work or business will this actually solve?
- Is that problem costing me real time, money, or client satisfaction?
- Do I already own something that gets me 80–90% there?
I invest heavily in a few reliable, long‑lasting tools (like my Think Tank bags) instead of constantly chasing the newest toy. I’d rather buy once, use hard, and know it will hold up on every job, than keep cycling through “almost right” gear.
From a business standpoint, I treat gear as an investment: if the purchase can’t reasonably be tied to more revenue, more bookings, or clear efficiency, it usually waits.
What’s the last piece of gear you bought that you’re not sure you really needed?
