I approach exposure compensation as a simple, fast override to what the camera thinks is “correct,” especially in tricky light. That’s where it can outperform a more rigid, traditional “set it once and leave it” mentality.

Instead of obsessing over full manual exposure for every frame, I’ll:

• Let the camera meter the scene
• Dial in +/– exposure compensation based on the subject (bright snow, dark backlight, etc.)
• Shoot, review, and quickly adjust again

This keeps you responsive, especially in changing light, and helps beginners actually see how brighter/darker adjustments affect a scene without getting stuck in technical overthinking.
