How does Scott Kivowitz use the 3 Legged Thing 'Eric' tripod for travel photography?

Scott Kivowitz uses the 3 Legged Thing “Eric” primarily as a compact, versatile travel and teaching tripod, with a few clear use-cases and limits.

For travel, Eric’s legs fold upward, making it short enough to strap to almost any camera bag, toss in the car trunk, or fit in a suitcase. Scott likes that it is relatively lightweight, has Arca-Swiss compatibility, and includes a detachable leg that doubles as a monopod for places where tripods are not allowed.

However, for long exposure work—especially in wind or with the center column extended—Scott finds Eric not stable enough for multi-minute shutter speeds, even with weight hanging from the hook. Because of that, he keeps Eric as an always-with-him “grab and go” travel tripod around New Jersey and as a teaching tripod, but not as his primary tripod when flying or doing serious long exposure photography.
