What are the pros and cons of using the Nikon Z6 as recommended by Scott Kivowitz?

I use and recommend the Nikon Z6 mainly as a hybrid camera for people who care a lot about video but still want solid stills performance. Here are the key pros and cons from my experience and reasoning behind choosing it over the Z7.

Pros of the Nikon Z6 (the way I use it)

• Great for video: Full-frame 4K, good oversampling, and better overall video flexibility than the original Z7
• Excellent low-light performance thanks to the 24MP sensor (cleaner high ISO, more forgiving)
• Lighter and smaller than most DSLRs, but still with a solid grip and weather sealing
• In-body image stabilization (IBIS) helps for handheld video and slower shutter speeds
• Z-mount lenses are sharp, and the FTZ adapter lets you keep using F-mount glass

Cons / limitations to keep in mind

• 24MP is plenty for most work, but if you do huge prints or heavy cropping, the Z7-series resolution is better
• Single XQD/CFexpress card slot can be a concern for some pros who want redundant recording
• Early Z autofocus isn’t as advanced as newer Nikon bodies (Z6II, Z8, Z9), especially for fast action
• Battery life is OK but not DSLR-level; for long shoots I always bring spares

If you’re primarily a creator or hybrid shooter (photo + video, YouTube, weddings, events), the Z6 hits a really nice sweet spot. If you’re a landscape or studio photographer who lives for detail and massive prints, I’d lean toward higher-megapixel bodies instead.
