Answer
Hi, I’m Hilary Erickson from The Pregnancy Nurse.
A few of the unique things I lean on are:
- Reality‑based (not fear‑based) parenting – Instead of controlling every choice, I let my kids experiment (clothes, tech, social life) and then we talk about what worked and what didn’t.
- Modeling, not just rules – With phones, for example, I openly admit when I’m doom‑scrolling and how it makes me feel, so they see me correcting my own habits.
- Natural ownership – If I’m paying, I set some standards; if they’re paying, they get more freedom and then we debrief the results (Were you cold? Did that outfit feel like “you”?).
- Strong communication and gradual independence – I ease kids into things like opposite‑gender friendships and dating with clear rules and lots of conversation, instead of a hard “now you’re 16, do whatever.”
- Family routines and expectations – I’m big on simple, clear routines so kids help with chores, cooking, and daily tasks. That way I’m not the only one running the household, and they learn self‑sufficiency.
Is there a specific age or challenge you’d like me to zoom in on—tweens, teens, chores, or screen time?
