How does Hilary Erickson integrate Santa as a representation of Christ in her household?

In my home, I treat Santa as a child-friendly symbol that points toward Christ, not as the same as Christ or on the same level.

Santa is someone kids can easily understand: if they believe, try to be good, and think of others, they receive gifts and also feel inspired to give. That pattern mirrors, in a simple way, how Christ loves us, knows us individually, and gives us blessings we could never “earn.”

We talk about how:

• Santa encourages generosity and kindness, which reflects the spirit of Christlike giving
• Many good deeds and charities happen “in the name of Santa,” which I see as people responding to the spirit of Christ at Christmas
• As children grow, I nudge them toward understanding Santa more as a feeling in your heart and the spirit of the season, rather than a man at the North Pole.
