Question
How does Hilary Erickson incorporate positive self-talk development in parenting?
Answer
In her approach to parenting, I emphasize the importance of developing positive self-talk in children. I believe that the voice in our heads greatly influences our self-perception and can either give us confidence or make us feel small. I encourage parents to help their children develop a positive voice in their heads.
For instance, when my daughter accomplishes something, I take pride in knowing that she has a positive voice inside her head cheering her on. I also make a conscious effort not to pass on any negative self-talk I might have about my own body to my daughter.
I believe in open discussions about self-talk. I ask my daughter about the voices in her head and encourage her to recognize when they are positive or negative. I also share my own experiences with self-talk, both positive and negative, to help her understand that everyone has these voices in their heads.
Finally, I try to model positive self-talk and create a positive environment for my children. I work on being positive and hope that it rubs off on my kids. I believe that changing our talk can change the voices in our heads.
Remember, it's a work in progress, and it's okay to have negative thoughts sometimes. The key is to recognize them and work towards making a change. How do you incorporate positive self-talk in your parenting?
