Question
How did Hilary Erickson overcome her fear of flying, and what techniques does she recommend?
Answer
Overcoming my fear of flying was a gradual process that involved several strategies. First, I started flying frequently, which helped me get used to the experience. I also realized that a lot of my fear was centered around not having control over my travel options, so I learned to let go and trust the process.
I found that having a few travel essentials, like a suitcase with four wheels and a well-organized bag, made me feel more comfortable. I also started downloading shows I love from Netflix to watch during takeoff and landing, which are the times I find most stressful.
Another technique I used was listening to a meditation my therapist gave me, which talks about how safe air travel is. This helped bring me back to reality and ease my fears. Lastly, I reminded myself that if I ever got in a jam, there's always a solution, like using my credit card to buy what I need or taking an Uber.
Remember, everyone's fears are different, and what worked for me might not work for you. But hopefully, these strategies can give you some ideas on how to tackle your own fears. What other concerns do you have about flying?
