My nursing school journey shaped almost everything about my career path. Getting into the BYU nursing program was competitive, and the gruelling semesters taught me perseverance and how to think critically under pressure—skills I use every day in labor and delivery.

Faculty often told me my writing was “too casual” and not technical enough. That friction actually pushed me toward patient education, because I believed information should be clear and understandable, not full of jargon. That belief eventually led to teaching hospital prenatal classes, starting my blogs (Pulling Curls and The Pregnancy Nurse), and creating my online prenatal courses.

So, that tough start in nursing school really set the foundation for both my bedside nursing and my education work online.
