Question
How does Hilary Erickson's experience as a nurse influence her parenting style?
Answer
Hi, I’m Hilary Erickson from The Pregnancy Nurse.
My nursing background shapes my parenting a lot. After years in pediatrics, geriatrics, hospice, and especially 20+ years in labor and delivery, I’ve seen how different families cope, communicate, and make decisions under stress. That’s pushed me toward reality-based, communication-heavy parenting rather than fear-based rules.
I talk openly with my kids about bodies, safety, choices, and consequences, because I know from the hospital that education really changes outcomes. I’m also very systems-oriented and organized at home (that nurse brain!), building routines and boundaries that help all of us function, while still admitting I’m imperfect and always learning.
Is there a specific aspect of my parenting you’re most curious about—teens, tech, discipline, or something else?
